I am totally against the idea that a Muslim woman should not have the same

opportunities as a Muslim man to learn, to open up, to work, help shape the future. To close Islam down to a sexist approach is totally intolerable and ridiculous. It's not Islam. Hussein of Jordan Courage and conviction are powerful weapons against an enemy who depends only on fists or guns. Animals know when you are afraid; a coward knows when you are not. David Seabury I want my permanent address to be in Oklahoma. Someday, when I get married and I have kids, that's where I want to raise my kids. Carrie Underwood Who walks the fastest, but walks astray, is only furthest from his way. Matthew Prior We need a hit, so here I go. Joe DiMaggio We must look after our own before lining the pockets of overseas countries and investors. Pauline Hanson It's very simple, I just tell my sad story, and people weep. Corazon Aquino

The idea of the peace movement and of people who spent their entire lives trying

to have a more egalitarian, just society, suddenly became swamped by the record industry, by the new rock and roll culture, and by the idea of not trusting anyone over thirty. David Amram I always believed that women have rights and that there are some women that are intelligent enough to claim those rights. There are some others that are stupid enough not to. Shakira In Vietnam we have no political prisoners. No one is arrested or jailed for his or her speech or point of view. They are put in jail because they violated the law. Nong Duc Manh The desire to write grows with writing. Desiderius Erasmus Power is the most persuasive rhetoric. Friedrich Schiller Name me an emperor who was ever struck by a cannonball. Charles V Satirists gain the applause of others through fear, not through love. William Hazlitt

Travelling to different countries is a goal. I wouldn't mind playing huge places if we

got an opportunity to, but it's nice to play small places too. Fish was saying yesterday that he doesn't ever want to play stadiums, or maybe he would once, he said. Mike Gordon More than 100 people are involved in a transplant operation... and we can't waste time and resources if there is a chance the caretakers aren't up for an awesome responsibility. Leonard Bailey All things by immortal power. Near of far, to each other linked are, that thou canst not stir a flower without troubling of a star. Francis Thompson To die will be an awfully big adventure. James M. Barrie The Supreme Court is not elected, and it is therefore not a proper arbiter of social policy. Lamar S. Smith Excessive literary production is a social offense. George Eliot I will try to account for the degree of my aesthetic emotion. That, I conceive, is the function of the critic. Clive Bell

For humanism also appeals to man as man. It seeks to liberate the universal qualities

of human nature from the narrow limitations of blood and soil and class and to create a common language and a common culture in which men can realize their common humanity. Christopher Dawson I'm passionately involved in life: I love its change, its color, its movement. To be alive, to be able to see, to walk, to have houses, music, paintings - it's all a miracle. Arthur Rubinstein A harsh reality of newspaper editing is that the deadlines don't allow for the polish that you expect in books or even magazines. Bill Walsh Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you fall into an open sewer and die. Mel Brooks I used to look down on the world for being corrupt, but now I adore it for the utter magnificence of that corruption. Richard J. Needham You may call for peace as loudly as you wish, but where there is no brotherhood there can in the end be no peace. Max Lerner You take people as far as they will go, not as far as you would like them to go. Jean

If you want to know the taste of a pear, you must change the pear

by eating it yourself. If you want to know the theory and methods of revolution, you must take part in revolution. All genuine knowledge originates in direct experience. Mao Zedong Native Americans had only stone and wooden weapons and no animals that could be ridden. Those military advantages repeatedly enabled troops of a few dozen mounted Spaniards to defeat Indian armies numbering in the thousands. Jared Diamond I'm proof against that word failure. I've seen behind it. The only failure a man ought to fear is failure of cleaving to the purpose he sees to be best. George Eliot If you let other people do it for you, they will do it to you. Robert Anthony Every day it becomes clearer that this was the wrong war at the wrong time. Howard Dean I have been determined for the past couple of years to move away from all those Holiday programmes. Jill Dando Difficult times require difficult decisions. But supporting this bill shouldn't be a difficult decision. J

People spend too much time finding other people to blame, too much energy finding excuses

for not being what they are capable of being, and not enough energy putting themselves on the line, growing out of the past, and getting on with their lives. J. Michael Straczynski America is not just a democracy, it represents a certain culture of competitive mobility and personality aspirations, politics is not merely a clash of interests, but a clash of dreams. David Brooks Three years after starting, by physically doing everything from raising the finance to special effects, we'd finally cobbled together our low budget film. Yahoo Serious Writing is a solitary occupation. Bernard Cornwell But I would argue that a longer war it's more difficult to keep records than a shorter war. Christopher Shays Separation penetrates the disappearing person like a pigment and steeps him in gentle radiance. Boy George I will defend anyone as long as the client gives me total control of the case and pays up front. Edward Bennett Williams

One day I think it's the greatest idea ever that I'm working on. The next

day I think it's the worst that I've ever worked on - and I swing between that a lot. Some days I'm very happy with what I'm doing, and the next day I am desperate - it's not working out! Eric Carle When we were making the law, when we were writing the literature and the mathematics the grandfarthers of Blair and little Bush were scratching around in caves. Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf I think it's more important to be fit so that you can be healthy and enjoy activities than it is to have a good body. Rachel Blanchard Somebody may beat me, but they are going to have to bleed to do it. Steve Prefontaine Life, we learn too late, is in the living, the tissue of every day and hour. Stephen Leacock I never liked making albums. Jim Sullivan Human societies vary in lots of independent factors affecting their openness to innovation. Jared Diamond
No sensible decision can be made any longer without taking into account not only the world as it is, but the world as it will be. Isaac Asimov You think, eventually, that nothing can disturb you and that your nerves are impregnable. Yet, looking down at that familiar face, I realized that death is something to which we never become calloused. Eliot Ness You have to forget about what other people say, when you're supposed to die, or when you're supposed to be loving. You have to forget about all these things. Jimi Hendrix I think they will feel refreshed because I cater to a mature audience. Slick Rick Fifty years from now I'll be just three inches of type in a record book. Brooks Robinson The problem was just a mean attitude that festers and has to be challenged. Major Owens Separate educational facilities are inherently unequal. Earl Warren

Every person who wins in any undertaking must be willing to cut all sources of

retreat. Only by doing so can one be sure of maintaining that state of mind known as a burning desire to win - essential to success. Napoleon Hill Death is a release from the impressions of the senses, and from desires that make us their puppets, and from the vagaries of the mind, and from the hard service of the flesh. Marcus Aurelius It is quite understandable that Puerto Ricans seek to preserve a cultural sense of identity without separating politically from U.S. national sovereignty. Dick Thornburgh A kiss makes the heart young again and wipes out the years. Rupert Brooke I look to the future because that's where I'm going to spend the rest of my life. George Burns With the stones we cast at them, geniuses build new roads with them. Paul Eldridge A great figure or physique is nice, but it's self-confidence that makes someone really sexy. Vivica A. Fox

Always Do Your Best. Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it

will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse and regret. Don Miguel Ruiz If the prime directives were followed a little more accurately here on earth, I mean it sounds somewhat Pollyanna, but I think people would certainly get along better. Jonathan Frakes Hope is the best possession. None are completely wretched but those who are without hope. Few are reduced so low as that. William Hazlitt There's a preoccupation with memory and the operation of memory and a rather rapacious interest in history. Penelope Lively I'm engaging my diaphragm as I'm speaking to you right now. Lesley Garrett Emotion is messy, contradictory... and true. Nigella Lawson When I was 12, every little girl in Russia was trying to wear her hair like mine and playing tennis. Anna Kournikova

Columbine was so frightening. And the media took off with it, like everything else, so

it instilled more fear in people. You're looking around at school for kids like the ones who committed the shootings, and you feel wrong for doing that, you know? John Robinson I'm known as a kind of dramatic, serious, almost humorless actor and the fact is, I'm a funny guy, and I spend most of my life trying to find a lighter side of things, and on stage was given plenty of opportunity to do that. Campbell Scott Do you know why language manifests itself the way it does in my work? It's because I understand short attention spans. Barbara Kruger Politicians like to tell people what they want to hear - and what they want to hear is what won't happen. Paul Samuelson I fell in love with social work, and that was my undoing as a poet. Carl Rakosi You don't need a city charter to know that education is the foundation of any community. Alan Autry There are very little things in this life I cannot afford and patience is one of them. Larry Hagman

After working as a journalist I went to a writing program at Johns Hopkins. It

was interesting because it was neither journalistic nor historical, but it emphasized writing style, and afterwards I was asked to write my first book. Iris Chang Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonymously. A person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves; vanity, to what we would have others think of us. I'm the only person standing between Richard Nixon and the White House. John F. Kennedy The major value in life is not what you get. The major value in life is what you become. Jim Rohn The timing of death, like the ending of a story, gives a changed meaning to what preceded it. Mary Catherine Bateson An atheist is a man who believes himself an accident. Francis Thompson

My main point here is that if you are the child of God and God

is a part of you, the in your imagination God suppose to look like you. And when you accept a picture of the deity assigned to you by another people, you become the spiritual prisoners of that other people. John Henrik Clarke Great effort is required to arrest decay and restore vigor. One must exercise proper deliberation, plan carefully before making a move, and be alert in guarding against relapse following a renaissance. Horace This is the first age that's ever paid much attention to the future, which is a little ironic since we may not have one. Arthur C. Clarke But I'm someone who the more afraid I am, the more I want to do it to get the fear over with. Cynthia Weil Too much truth is uncouth. Franklin Pierce Adams An ounce of cheerfulness is worth a pound of sadness to serve God with. Thomas Fuller I like my coffee like I like my women. In a plastic cup. Eddie Izzard

Gun control means being able to hit your target. If I have a 'hot button'

issue, this is definitely it. Don't even think about taking my guns. My rights are not negotiable, and I am totally unwilling to compromise when it comes to the Second Amendment. Michael Badnarik People have to talk about something just to keep their voice boxes in working order so they'll have good voice boxes in case there's ever anything really meaningful to say. Kurt Vonnegut I've got a long list of books I wish I'd never written-and I've kept them all out of print for the past 20 years. Robert Fortune

We've been swimming at nude beaches and I love to go skinny dipping, but I'm

sorry, sitting on top of a mountain, that's just, you're trying to show off or something. That's ridiculous. Andy Richter I'm a believer. I don't go to church. I don't belong to any particular religion, but I do believe in God. I couldn't write what I write about and be creative without a certain form of belief. Nick Cave I close my eyes, then I drift away, into the magic night I softly say. A silent prayer, like dreamers do, then I fall asleep to dream my dreams of you. Roy Orbison My book collection is primarily in America, since that's where I've lived most of my life. Terri Windling Nowadays those are rewarded who make right appear wrong. Terence We don't teach kids how to feel, we don't give them the words to go by. John Denver The monster was the best friend I ever had. Boris Karloff

I think there are many times when it would be most efficient to use nuclear

weapons. However, the public opinion in this country and throughout the world throw up their hands in horror when you mention nuclear weapons, just because of the propaganda that's been fed to them. Curtis LeMay All I know is what the words know, and dead things, and that makes a handsome little sum, with a beginning and a middle and an end, as in the well-built phrase and the long sonata of the dead. Samuel Beckett I think the British have the distinction above all other nations of being able to put new wine into old bottles without bursting them. Clement Attlee I am a part of all that I have met. Alfred Lord Tennyson Genius always gives its best at first; prudence, at last. Lucius Annaeus Seneca It is a terrible thing to see and have no vision. Helen Keller It is no use trying to sum people up. One must follow hints, not exactly what is said, nor yet entirely what is done. John Greenleaf Whittier

There is a quality even meaner than outright ugliness or disorder, and this meaner quality

is the dishonest mask of pretended order, achieved by ignoring or suppressing the real order that is struggling to exist and to be served. Jane Jacobs If we are a metaphor of the universe, the human couple is the metaphor par excellence, the point of intersection of all forces and the seed of all forms. The couple is time recaptured, the return to the time before time. Octavio Paz Everybody says, 'You impress me as a guy who never wanted to be a movie star.' I say, 'Everybody in the world wants to be a movie star.' Rip Torn A human being must have occupation, of he or she is not to become a nuisance to the world. Dorothy L. Sayers We have a long tradition in this state of caring for our neighbors - it is truly an Iowa value. Thomas Vilsack America is like an unfaithful love who promises us more than we got. Charlotte Bunch It's a disagreeable thing to be whipped. William Tecumseh Sherman

I think any advocate who is effective has fully acquainted himself or herself with the

legislator they are going to meet. Know what committees they are on, what issues they are interested in, all in an effort to build a bridge for communicating with them. Mark Shields The link between peace and stability on the one hand, and social and economic growth on the other, is dialectic. Peace, poverty, and backwardness cannot mix in one region. Hussein of Jordan If a person loves only one other person and is indifferent to all others, his love is not love but a symbiotic attachment, or an enlarged egotism. Erich Fromm I think it requires a bit of honesty, Swan Lake. Graeme Murphy The first movie that I saw was Godzilla and I loved it. Pam Grier It's not the winter that bothers me - it's the summers. Walt Alston Never write on a subject until you have read yourself full of it. Jean Paul

I've fallen back on this periodically, although I must say that getting out of the

grocery business ranked right up there with getting out of the army as one of the happier experiences of my life. David Eddings I think that between the egos of the actors and the wrestlers in this country we are taking away from the truly dedicated and informed people who should be getting their voice heard. Dwayne Hickman I have not placed reading before praying because I regard it more important, but because, in order to pray aright, we must understand what we are praying for. Angelina Grimke The geysers and hot springs of the Yellowstone are another proof of recent volcanic activity. Ellsworth Huntington Accuracy is the twin brother of honesty; inaccuracy, of dishonesty. Nathaniel Hawthorne The average tourist wants to go to places where there are no tourists. Sam Ewing Jason's got a family, so it's difficult for us to get together. Jeremy London

I try to remember, as I hear about friends getting engaged, that it's not about

the ring and it's not about the wedding. It's a grave thing, getting married. And it's easy to get swept up in the wrong things. Gwyneth Paltrow I know that it isn't just violence against women, it's how do we support ourselves and our families, how do we deal with health care for ourselves and our families? It's a bigger picture. Patricia Ireland I know the disposition of women: when you will, they won't; when you won't, they set their hearts upon you of their own inclination. Jean Racine I have more influence now than when I had the power. Gough Whitlam A good action is never lost; it is a treasure laid up and guarded for the doer's need. Pedro Calderon de la Barca Experience is the only prophecy of wise men. Alphonse de Lamartine Now I start my diary of my personal plot to kill by pistol either Richard Nixon or George Wallace. Arthur Bremer

interviews he had and he said, 'Well, yeah, I was a garbage goal collector.' But he knew the timing. I knew where he was. Marcel Dionne I think that I do separate myself a fair amount. And I don't feel like I am representing women. That's up to however people interpret it once they sort of see it. Edison Now I have to have the biggest P.O. box in the entire post office to get all the manuscripts coming in. Susie Bright

I also used these realistic sounds in a psychological way. With The Good, the Bad

and the Ugly, I used animal sounds - as you say, the coyote sound - so the sound of the animal became the main theme of the movie. Ennio Morricone I studied with a blind teacher from about 5 until I was 16, at two different schools. From the age of 12 until 16, I was in a boarding school-which, I believe, at that time was compulsory for blind children. So I'm going to tell you, it's going to be a good year. There are

good players all over this country, and it is our job as a scouting department to find them, draft them, sign them, develop them, and help us to continue to win championships. So it's going to be a good year. Roy Clark When you become a parent, or a teacher, you turn into a manager of this whole system. You become the person controlling the bubble of innocence around a child, regulating it. Kazuo Ishiguro Democracy... is a charming form of government, full of variety and disorder; and dispensing a sort of equality to equals and unequals alike. Plato I said we needed to organize women around the world to push peace. Eddie Bernice Johnson I lost interest in firearms because we had a dog that was scared to death of the sound of a rifle shot. James Spader Anything happens in Grand Prix racing, and it usually does. Murray Walker The reason we're so dangerous is because we're totally harmless. Cheech Marin

creative control to overseas 'cause whoever comes on my sets, whether you're sweeping the floor or an actor, it doesn't matter who comes up with the ideas, it's a collaboration. Yahoo Serious You can't worry if it's cold; you can't worry if it's hot; you only worry if you get sick. Because then if you don't get well, you die. It was in the Papal States that I studied the Roman Question. I traveled over

every part of the country; I conversed with men of all opinions, examined things very closely, and collected my information on the spot. Edmond About Logic is one thing, the human animal another. You can quite easily propose a logical solution to something and at the same time hope in your heart of hearts it won't work out. Luigi Pirandello Dancing's not always stressful, but I always make sure that I'm prepared as I can be, both physically, mentally, and practically. Frank Darabont I don't mind living in a man's world as long as I can be a woman in it. Marilyn Monroe

Creation destroys as it goes, throws down one tree for the rise of another. But

ideal mankind would abolish death, multiply itself million upon million, rear up city upon city, save every parasite alive, until the accumulation of mere existence is swollen to a horror. D. H. Lawrence The second Cocoon questions that and deals much more directly with the value of living in the real world with its trials and tribulations. Vinge I merely took the energy it takes to pout and wrote some blues. Duke Ellington In the province of the mind, what one believes to be true either is true or becomes true. John Lilly I shoot, I score. He shoots, I score. Dan Gable He only earns his freedom and his life Who takes them every day by storm. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

I am amazed about how everyone wants to know about my love life. They whisper

to me, 'Tell me the truth? Is it true?' Who cares? Because we have this job, we are to say to everybody what we do, or with whom we sleep? It's a bit absurd, but that's why everybody lies so much. Penelope Cruz Living in Washington, you can't take politics too seriously. I draw the line at honesty. I have no time for political hacks who say things they don't believe because they get paid to. Tucker Carlson That peace which is within us, we must experience it. And if we are searching for peace outside we will never find the peace within. Albert Claude As I have studied the Bible and the Book of Mormon, I have come to know through the power of the Spirit of God, that these books contain the fullness of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Marcus Aurelius It is the desire of our hearts, and as we believe God's will under this dispensation, that all the children of God should be gathered together as such, and, consequently, as not of the world. Florida is a place of unparalleled diversity of backgrounds, experiences and vision. It makes our

culture unique, but it can also make it difficult to define a common identity and create a sense of community that reaches beyond our neighborhoods to all corners of our state. touring too much, but it's easy to get out of it by deliberately getting in trouble and playing yourself into a corner to then see if you can get out of it. Leo Kottke I am in love - and, my God, it is the greatest thing that can happen to a man. I tell you, find a woman you can fall in love with. Do it. Let yourself fall in love. Robbie Coltrane A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new; when an age ends; and when the soul of a nation long suppressed finds utterance. sparkle in her eye, which is good. But I don't know that she's ever had a real job - I mean, since she's been grown up. Teresa Heinz In the United States I have always believed that there was a big difference between Conservative and stupid. Boy is it getting harder to prove that one by the minute. Rick Mercer You have to enjoy it. It is not going to happen every year, so this is the year that it is happening and we have got to go out there and enjoy it. Sammy Sosa A simple fact that is hard to learn is that the time to save money is when you have some. Joe Moore Look, just tell me where that lemon came from and I'll shut up and go away. Johnson If you talk bad about country music, it's like saying bad things about my momma. Them's fightin' words. Dolly Parton

We've built the largest empire in the history of the world. It's been done over

the last 50 years since World War II with very little military might, actually. It's only in rare instances like Iraq where the military comes in as a last resort. John Perkins Why do people embrace God? In my opinion, belief in God and an afterlife is a necessary extension of man's need to feel that this life does not end with what we call death. Robert Vaughn I began to see during the civil war, in that part of the states of Missouri and Kansas where the doctors were shut out, the children did not die. Andrew Taylor Still Many who think they are workers in politics are really merely tools. Lord Salisbury Anger is never without an argument, but seldom with a good one. The lesson that any thinking person draws from the Stewart saga is that when the

government asks questions, run for your lawyer and don't say a word. Had Stewart kept her mouth shut, she'd be OK. Allan Sloan God how I hate new countries: They are older than the old, more sophisticated, much more conceited, only young in a certain puerile vanity more like senility than anything. D. H. Clarence Darrow Neither the Army nor the Navy is of any protection, or very little protection, against aerial raids. Alexander Graham Bell

Communication is a continual balancing act, juggling the conflicting needs for intimacy and independence. To

survive in the world, we have to act in concert with others, but to survive as ourselves, rather than simply as cogs in a wheel, we have to act alone. Deborah Tannen I guess when Rick is finished with his Journey to the Centre of the Earth, then we might have a go at something. We'd like to, we're open to it, and we've been talking about it. Keith Emerson The fountain of youth with the youthful young musician is one meaning, and the fountain of youth with the youthful energy of the leader is another meaning. Roy Haynes The best path through life is the highway. Henri Frederic Amiel Everyone ought to bear patiently the results of his own conduct. Phaedrus The art of using deceit and cunning grow continually weaker and less effective to the user. John Tillotson The attainment of the economic aims of man presupposes peace. Ludwig von Mises

Love was not in it for me at first. I dated guys because of the

way they looked. And then I began to learn that it's what's inside that counts. Love to me now is understanding. It's giving. Crystal Waters When I joined the band, being that I was going to take this up as a profession, I realized that there were no two finer guitar players in the world that I'd rather play with. Drew Barrymore You become a champion by fighting one more round. When things are tough, you fight one more round. James J. Corbett We're all working together; that's the secret. Sam Walton I didn't have anything to apologize for. Bernard Ebbers I never grew up with a mother's hand - that's why I will forever be insecure, I think, in that primal way. John Lone

I don't think I'll ever fully get over losing the city council seat. I don't

know how that happened. But it was less than 1 percent out of 50,000 votes. I'd put in six or seven years into changing L.A. Tom Hayden The Spirit communicating to your spirit is the most effective and fundamental of communications. Write it down. As you write down impressions of the Spirit, more are given. Richard G. Dan Brown Run away from greatness and greatness will follow you. Abu Bakr Education is the investment our generation makes in the future. Mitt Romney The guy who invented the first wheel was an idiot. The guy who invented the other three, he was a genius. Sid Caesar If you ask me to compromise on principle, I will get out the veto pen. You know, who cares about seeing the girls when everybody wants to see the band.

That's what's important, KISS is important. I think we look great, and the attitude is there, and I'm real happy with it. Eric Carr What the nation's built on is discussion, contradiction and growth, and at the moment you can't discuss anything. If you do start to discuss it, you get criticized. If people hate us, you have to find out why and try to solve that problem. Donald Sutherland Golf is the hardest game in the world. There is no way you can ever get it. Just when you think you do, the game jumps up and puts you in your place. Ben Crenshaw A good plan violently executed now is better than a perfect plan executed next week. George S. Patton How prone to doubt, how cautious are the wise! Alexander Pope Teach us to give and not to count the cost. Saint Ignatius To talk about adults without talking about their sex drives is like talking about a window without glass. Grace Metalious

I really detest movies like 'Indecent Proposal' and 'Pretty Woman' because they send a message

to women that sleeping with a rich man is the ultimate goal and really that's such a small part of it. Laura Kightlinger Almost any film that you do is an opportunity to open you up and make you more aware of an area that you might not be thinking about. That's what is kind of cool, or one of the cool things about this profession. Joan Allen I'm really proud of Blair Witch Project as a film, but as far as the cultural phenomenon of it - that was just weird luck. Joshua Leonard I like to touch things. In my house I have a lot of velvet drapes and thick, lush couches. Tom Sizemore Law; an ordinance of reason for the common good, made by him who has care of the community. Thomas Aquinas I've been rich and I've been poor. It's better to be rich. Gertrude Stein I loved 'Clueless.' That was one of my favorite movies of all time. Amanda Bynes

The sport would not survive today if drivers were being killed at the rate they

were in the 1960s and '70s. It would have been taken off the air. It is beamed into people's living rooms on Sunday afternoons, with children watching. Damon Hill I'm so proud of Maryland's firefighters, risking their lives to protect others, but we need to protect our protectors with the best equipment training and resources. Barbara Mikulski The greater the difficulty the more glory in surmounting it. Skillful pilots gain their reputation from storms and tempests. Epictetus There is a great difference between knowing and understanding: you can know a lot about something and not really understand it. Charles Kettering You know, it's a different deal - throwing a football as opposed to throwing a baseball. Drew Bledsoe Reality is only a Rorschach ink-blot, you know. Alan Watts You make a mistake, you keep going. Linda Gray

I'm not the sexiest thing in the world, I feel actors who have to 'play'

sexy lose all their sex appeal. When they start with the tongue and the heavy lids, it looks so ridiculous. I think you just have to be yourself. Stephanie Zimbalist By 'radical,' I understand one who goes too far; by 'conservative', one who does not go far enough; by 'reactionary', one who won't go at all. Christiane Amanpour It is convenient that there be gods, and, as it is convenient, let us believe there are. Ovid To live effectively is to live with adequate information. Norbert Wiener

Why should we think upon things that are lovely? Because thinking determines life. It is

a common habit to blame life upon the environment. Environment modifies life but does not govern life. The soul is stronger than its surroundings. William James I went from a guy, kind of a working actor, a supporting player, to magazine covers and being offered the studio pictures really quickly. Nobody was comfortable with it. I wasn't really comfortable with it. David Caruso Everyone knows that our current system is kind of like legalized prostitution. The corporate sector completely controls the civic sector. Peter Coyote Our shows today are better and funnier than they've ever been. Dick Smothers Only one man ever understood me, and he didn't understand me. Johann Gottlieb Fichte It's those damn critics again. Irwin Shaw Words of comfort, skillfully administered, are the oldest therapy known to man. Louis Nizer

problems worse, but many believe it represents a first step toward undermining the program's fundamental goals. Patty Murray Publicity is a great purifier because it sets in action the forces of public opinion, and in this country public opinion controls the courses of the nation. Charles Evans Hughes There is a contest old as Eden, which still goes on - the conflict between right and wrong, between error and truth. In this conflict every human being has a part. be ruled or dictated by terrorists, dictators, and murderers. He is absolutely right. God bless him for his resolve. Lindsey Graham It's the fans that need spring training. You gotta get 'em interested. Wake 'em up and let 'em know that their season is coming, the good times are gonna roll. Harry Caray I felt unworthy to play Jesus. I just accepted the responsibility and said, 'What actor wouldn't want to play this role?' Jim Caviezel Being sorry is the highest act of selfishness, seeing value only after discarding it. Vince McMahon The uniform makes for brotherhood, since when universally adopted it covers up all differences of class and country. Robert Baden-Powell

Hunger and sex still dominate the primitive mammalian side of human existence, but at the

present time it looks as if humanity were within sight of their satisfaction. Permanent plenty, no longer a Utopian dream, awaits the arrival of permanent peace. John Desmond Bernal Today when we say the West we are already referring to the West and to Russia. We could use the word 'modernity' if we exclude Africa, and the Islamic world, and partially China. Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn What is absurd and monstrous about war is that men who have no personal quarrel should be trained to murder one another in cold blood. Aldous Huxley Grace is the beauty of form under the influence of freedom. Friedrich Schiller With us air people, the future of our nation is indissolubly bound up in the development of air power. Billy Mitchell When nature has work to be done, she creates a genius to do it. Ralph Waldo Emerson Tears are the summer showers to the soul. Alfred Austin

We've no use for intellectuals in this outfit. What we need is chimpanzees. Let me

give you a word of advice: never say a word to us about being intelligent. We will think for you, my friend. Don't forget it. Louis-Ferdinand Celine I was hoping for it to be possibly a movie career as I still would like to see that happen. I enjoyed making 200 Motels and did try out for a few things when I lived in LA, but nothing ever happened. I'm still hoping though. Jimmy Carl Black What's really exciting for me is communicating to other people and not just going somewhere to make a movie. That's Hollywood to me and it would mean nothing. Henry Fielding Learning without thought is labor lost; thought without learning is perilous. Confucius My mother liked Jim Reeves. I hated his records. He was unbear

What I'm going to be given I gather is not the key to the city,

which in many cities is the case. It's the freedom medal, and for me freedom has always been associated traditionally within the city. George Woodcock A successful individual typically sets his next goal somewhat but not too much above his last achievement. In this way he steadily raises his level of aspiration. Kurt Lewin Even the most jingoistic person would have to admit that even American cultural music comes from Europe. That's what classical music is, real European music. If you think aficionados of a living Constitution want to bring you flexibility, think again.

You think the death penalty is a good idea? Persuade your fellow citizens to adopt it. You want a right to abortion? Persuade your fellow citizens and enact it. That's flexibility. Antonin Scalia There are unknown forces in nature; when we give ourselves wholly to her, without reserve, she lends them to us; she shows us these forms, which our watching eyes do not see, which our intelligence does not understand or suspect. Olivia Newton-John

I think photographs should be provocative and not tell you what you already know. It

takes no great powers or magic to reproduce somebody's face in a photograph. The magic is in seeing people in new ways. Duane Michals Does a black person make them an African American? I'm not the type of guy who enjoys one-night stands. It leaves me feeling very

empty and cynical. It's not even fun sexually. I need to feel something for the woman and entertain the vain hope that it may lead to a relationship. Ben Affleck As I think through the issue of funding the rebuilding of Iraq, I think about the analogy of a bankruptcy proceeding. There is no doubt that Iraq as a country is bankrupt. and concurred in by only four justices, it was held that the seller of a patented mimeograph could bind the purchaser to use only his ink in the machine, though the ink was not patented. North England, or something, and that we didn't understand the Internet. I told him Fall fans invented the Internet. They were on there in 1982. Mark E. The reason we're getting bombed is 'cause we were on one side, and we're gonna

remain on that side. We can't waver because these are our enemies right now. I'm sorry. I'm gonna say it out loud. The Arabs, that's right, are our enemies. That's right. Jimmie Walker If we wait for the U.S. to do something, we will be waiting for a very long time. It's Europe, it's Australia, it's the other developed and middle developing countries that have got to do the job. LA's a very hard place to be unless you have people there that love you.

Salinger One could write a history of science in reverse by assembling the solemn pronouncements of highest authority about what could not be done and could never happen. Robert A. through the hearts of millions. There is a powerful need for people to feel that gust of hope rise up again. Cat Stevens I'm sick of very white teeth and lots of gymnasium practice. the most important safety nets for American women in old age, or in times of disability, to insure financial income for their families. One reason so few of us achieve what we truly want is that we never

direct our focus; we never concentrate our power. Most people dabble their way through life, never deciding to master anything in particular. I'm convinced that the man who has learned to meditate upon the Lord will be

able to run on his feet and walk in his spirit. Although he may be hurried by his vocation, that's not the issue. The issue is how fast his spirit is going. To slow it down takes a period of time. Charles Stanley I'm a real 'go, go' person... I'd make myself crazy by pushing too hard. It's important to pull pack the reins a little bit and get in touch with what's inside. We have to stress our conservative credentials and emphasize that we are the natural, national

Peter MacKay I really think the mind of someone who hasn't been welded into place by their work or studios or actors or this whole society is a wonderful mind to work with, so I'd like to do a big picture with an unknown director. Joan Severance I think Romeo and Juliet is uplifting. That's how much a son wishes to avenge his father. That is how much two young people can love each other. Ben Kingsley The trouble with learning from experience is that you never graduate. Doug Larson I'm a pretty quiet guy, but if people want to think of me as a lady killer, I guess that's good. Mark Kirk I'm not saying that more performance wouldn't be better - all these technologies are going to get better - that's the difference between first generation and second generation. Ron Brown was when he was chairman of the Democratic Party, but he put the party in a position where Bill Clinton could come in and he had a solid base to run from. Susan Estrich I decided that I would be one of the biggest new names; and I actually had some little fancy business cards printed up to announce it, 'Count Basie. Beware, the Count is Here.'
