Peter A wise man turns chance into good fortune. Thomas Fuller

After each experience, you grow up, you get enriched with something, and you don't know

how you're going to be in six months, you don't know what you're going to want, what you're going to need. Audrey Tautou We're the best team in baseball, but not by much. Denis Diderot I don't think the current regime of South Korea will deal actively with the issue of North Korean defectors. Kim Young-sam The future of our nation depends on our ability to produce food and fiber to sustain the world. Phil Bredesen Everyday holds the possibility of a miracle. Elizabeth David Every life is a profession of faith, and exercises an inevitable and silent influence. Henri Frederic Amiel I was a normal, rather dutiful child. I didn't even rebel as a teenager. Emily Watson

You see, it's never the environment; it's never the events of our lives, but the

meaning we attach to the events - how we interpret them - that shapes who we are today and who we'll become tomorrow. Tony Robbins Marriage is the miracle that transforms a kiss from a pleasure into a duty. Helen Rowland I believe that every person is born with talent. Maya Angelou I wish the government would put a tax on pianos for the incompetent. Edith Sitwell We never fail when we try to do our duty, we always fail when we neglect to do it. What you do with it is your gift back to God. Leo Buscaglia

One book at a time... though I'm usually doing the research for others while I'm

writing, but that sort of research is fairly desultory and I like to stick to the book being written - and writing a book concentrates the mind so the research is more productive. Bernard Cornwell Vicksburg lies on top of a bluff on the east side of a large tongue of land jutting out into the Mississippi. Knute Nelson You don't suffer, kill yourself and take the risks I take just for money. I love bike racing. Greg LeMond Keep true to the dreams of your youth. John Cameron I don't know if God exists, but it would be better for His reputation if He didn't. Mitchell Baker A game is not won until it is lost. David Pleat Where thou art, that is home. Emily Dickinson This is the story of what a Woman's patience can endure, and what a Man's resolution can achieve. Wilkie Collins

To observe people in conflict is a necessary part of a child's education. It helps

him to understand and accept his own occasional hostilities and to realize that differing opinions need not imply an absence of love. Milton Sapirstein We cannot be contented because we are happy, and we cannot be happy because we are contented. Walter Savage Landor The whole surf culture is starting to embrace women a lot more. Michelle Rodriguez What do girls do who haven't any mothers to help them through their troubles? Louisa May Alcott There is room in the smallest cottage for a happy loving pair. Well, when I was younger, in high school, I started out smoking pot. Which escalated

John Wozniak The road to positivity is strewn with the abandoned vehicles of the faint-hearted. Peter McWilliams It does not prove a thing to be right because the majority say it is so. Friedrich Schiller I want to be so strong as an actor that people wouldn't say... eh, that's Josh Lucas. Josh Lucas The taste of defeat has a richness of experience all its own. Bill Bradley Jealousy would be far less torturous if we understood that love is a passion entirely unrelated to our merits. Paul Eldridge There's nothing like living a long time to create a depth and soulfulness in your music. Bonnie Raitt

Frank Lloyd Wright How little do they see what really is, who frame their hasty judgment upon that which seems. Daniel Webster A girl told me my lips looked like somebody had pressed strawberry yogurt against my face. Katherine Heigl

Unequal funding resources also results in unequal educational opportunity when you consider studies that show

that one half of low income students who are qualified to attend college do not attend because they can't afford to. Bobby Scott I think my being such a nomad let me into acting. I was always having to create a new image whenever we moved. Aidan Quinn An economist is an expert who will know tomorrow why the things he predicted yesterday didn't happen today. Laurence J. Peter My mother taught me to read. Fiona Shaw It's simple, if it jiggles, it's fat. Arnold Schwarzenegger Every kid needs a mentor. Everybody needs a mentor. Donovan Bailey Choose the life that is most useful, and habit will make it the most agreeable. Francis Bacon

A multitude of causes unknown to former times are now acting with a combined force

to blunt the discriminating powers of the mind, and unfitting it for all voluntary exertion to reduce it to a state of almost savage torpor. William Wordsworth People recognize me, call me Ron, and ask me questions. It's really cool and weird as well. Rupert Grint In trying to scramble out of a hole, it sometimes digs it deeper. Wellington Mara No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it. Albert Einstein Discovering witnesses is just as important as catching criminals. Simon Wiesenthal It's not that I'm knocking the movie and television work. George Peppard Recently I heard Sheryl Crow and I loved her, she was terrific. Bobby Sherman

I guess you could say that, at 65, when you've seen the world shape up as I have, there are only two things you can do: laugh or kill yourself. John le Carre Some are so very studious of learning what was done by the ancients that they know not how to live with the moderns. William Penn You can preach a better sermon with your life than with your lips. Oliver Goldsmith The wisest prophets make sure of the event first. Horace Walpole A nation's culture resides in the hearts and in the soul of its people. Mahatma Gandhi I am but an architectural composer. Alexander Jackson Davis The road to Easy Street goes through the sewer. John Madden

I have always felt that a woman has the right to treat the subject of

her age with ambiguity until, perhaps, she passes into the realm of over ninety. Then it is better she be candid with herself and with the world. Carl Sandburg I had to get out of America to get a professional life going where I could actually make a living. Harold Budd Those in supreme power always suspect and hate their next heir. Tacitus I dislike feeling at home when I am abroad. George Bernard Shaw If you can imagine it, we can make it. John Dykstra If your library is not 'unsafe', it probably isn't doing its job. The politicians of New York have everything that is necessary to make proper decisions and

they will have to live with what happens afterwards. The worst scenario is the politicians covering their eyes and turning it over to the FBI. Tom Hayden Words, without power, is mere philosophy. Muhammad Iqbal If the rabble were lopped off at one end and the aristocrats at the other, all would be well with the country. Andrew Johnson Caricature is rough truth. George Meredith If I can do one hundredth part for the Indian that Mrs. Stowe did for the Negro, I will be thankful. Helen Hunt Jackson By the time I was 8 years old, sports had pretty much taken over my life. Michael Bergin I try to use the Australian idiom to its maximum advantage. Paul Keating

Scientific corporations might well become almost independent states and be enabled to undertake their largest

experiments without consulting the outside world - a world which would be less and less able to judge what the experiments were about. John Desmond Bernal I would be very happy doing movies. Robert Benchley You will always move toward anyone who increases you and away from anyone who makes you less. Mike Murdock I'm happy with the way everyone presents themselves onstage. My first joke was about a company called Five Star Parking that was all over

Philadelphia: 'Who's reviewing parking lots?' Adam McKay I don't have to try to be perfect because I know that my fans like me for who I am. They like me because I am weird and kind of funky, but still really calm. Bella Thorne It's a funny feeling to work with people who you consider your colleagues and to realize that they actually are young enough to be your children. Alan Alda There was a time when cowboys respected their horses instead of riding them to death just to show off for a crowd. Tommy Lee My friends and family are amazed I've done so well. I was not a model student. No one expected that I'd build a Fortune 500 company at Symantec. John W. Thompson Before 'Moonrise,' I never thought I would be in a movie where I would be struck by lightning. Jared Gilman The theme of sisters - of missing sisters, of needing sisters, the special love that sisters share or the antagonism sisters share - is something that is very close to...

Al Gonzales is a dedicated public servant and exceptionally qualified to be our

nation's next Attorney General. I know that a lot has been said about Judge Gonzales' life story. It is a story of the fulfillment of the American Dream. Mel Martinez In politics, there is no use looking beyond the next fortnight. Joseph Chamberlain All some folks want is their fair share and yours. Arnold H. Glasow Everything will line up perfectly when knowing and living the truth becomes more important than looking good. Alan Cohen Nicolette, Kendalle, and Alexandra are my children. Ted Nugent The harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. Thomas Paine

The nature of a protective immune response to HIV is still unclear. Because in a

very, very unique manner, unlike virtually any other microbe with which we're familiar, the HIV virus has evolved in a way that the immune system finds it very difficult, if not impossible, to deal with the virus. Anthony Fauci In poetry you can express almost inexpressible feelings. You can express the pain of loss, you can express love. People always turn to poetry when someone they love dies, when they fall in love. Erica Jong My father had all these great names for our cows. Bossy and Daisy and Petunia and Turnip. One of my jobs was to round up the cows before milking. I'd go out back with the dog and bring them in. Bobbie Ann Mason I quite like to sing, actually - just belting out numbers with my guitar. I find that it's a form of tranquility. Jack O'Connell I was 3 and a half, and there was an open call for a Coca-Cola commercial. We were living around Dallas, and my mom took me. I think they were calling for 16-year-olds that could ride horses and swi...

I think my parents recognised that I'd always wanted to be a writer, and so

they didn't think that this was some idle, faddish wish on my part. Chang-Rae Lee I never studied dance, but if you look at 'Wild At Heart,' my mother saw that movie and said, 'You are a dancer. Look at how you're moving: all that strange energy is like modern dance.' Nicolas Cage Show me a mall, and I'm happy. Julia Roberts Some believe that the FBI has these phenomenal capabilities to access any information at any time - that we can get what we want, when we want it, by flipping some sort of switch. It may be true in the movies or on TV. It is simply not the case in real life. James Comey After the French Revolution, the world money power shifted from Paris to London. For three generations, the British maintained an old-fashioned colonial empire, as well as a modern empire based on London's primacy in the money markets. Gore Vidal Songwriting is such an intricate part of me as an artist and as a person; I couldn't just let someone el...

The more of what our music does violates the premise of its format that it's presented in,

the better. So, hearing our music in the supermarket, a Muzak version, is great. Walter Becker My mum always said I devoured 'The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe' at the tender age of four, but frankly, I think that might be a touch of maternal exaggeration. Matt Haig Indie movies can be a lot more stressful than studio pictures. The stakes are just as high whether you're talking $3 million or $40 million. Brian Reitzell The precariat is the first class in history to be losing acquired rights - cultural, civil, social, economic, and political. Guy Standing SXSW has been a melting pot of ideas and policy on immigration, cybersecurity, privacy, Internet of Things, international trade, and innovation. Suzan DelBene I am a proponent of investing in infrastructure... and, if we can use state resources to make ProvPort more prosperous and successful, then that will benefit the whole state. Gina Raimondo I have always been communicative. I can't help it if I have been misun...

Mental agitations and eating cares are more injurious to health, and destructive of life, than

is commonly imagined, and could their effects be collected, would make no inconsiderable figure in the bills of mortality. William Falconer It's a shame the Manchester United situation turned sour. Paul Ince We know the road to freedom has always been stalked by death. Angela Davis When you realize you're alive, you can live life! Chad Michael Murray I spent most of this afternoon writing a new introduction for my autobiography. The fact is, in the minds of many, Trayvon Martin received the appropriate punishment for

a true crime: He was black, male and dared to walk outside. In life, young Trayvon was just a teenager; in death, he has been transformed into a scary, lurking, suspicious, prone-to-violence spook. Henry Rollins If I had gone to a big company, it would have been very difficult for me to do research freely. At a big company, say Sony, there are very, very good researchers. So I would have to ask them what I could do. Shuji Nakamura I think that there's the Kim Kardashian brand and the Kardashian brand. I think they blend together, but I have different qualities or interests that my sisters might not be so into. Kim Kardashian I don't like to work out, and I get bored easily. Janet Jackson My dad and all my family were into baseball. His brothers, my mom's brothers, my mom's father. Baseball was just always a part of our family. Mark Teixeira I'm a Communist, fully convinced and dedicated to my cause. Italo Calvino Creating a body of mathematics is a...

No one has got close enough to use or abuse me, and even if they

did, I wouldn't get too emotional about it. The only thing I ever get emotional about is my family. I am kind to everyone but I trust no one. That keeps me from getting hurt. Akshay Kumar I love sports. I love animals. I love kids. I want to save the world. So how do I combine all those things? I don't know. Joan Jett Some people talk about children wanting to be born as though somewhere out there in the collective unconscious there's a spirit, or a thought or an idea that wants to be born. And I sometimes feel that way about stories... that they're there and they want to be told. Ann-Marie MacDonald Journalism is a kind of profession, or craft, or racket, for people who never wanted to grow up and go out into the real world. Harry Reasoner The overwhelming majority of my rated wealth consists of investments in companies that produce goods and services. J. Paul Getty We can have no '50-50' allegiance in this country. Either a man is an American an...

But I want to just caution, it is not incumbent on the United States to

prove that Saddam Hussein is trying to acquire weapons of mass destruction. He's already demonstrated that he's trying to acquire weapons of mass destruction. Condoleezza Rice I built up a knowledge of 1960s and '70s British films because my dad used to work nights, and I'd sit up with my mum and watch films - 'How I Won the War' and the films of Richard Lester, Karel Reisz and John Schlesinger. Nick Moran Well, I was very lucky. I was brought up west southwest coast of Scotland and my mother and father had a music shop, and so I was surrounded by pianos and drums and guitars, and music, of course. Clive Anderson I probably am more shy than people realize. But I'm shy when I leave a studio and I am just myself. Jane Pauley Kevin Costner has feathers in his hair and feathers in his head. The Indians should have called him 'Plays with Camera.' Pauline Kael Yeah, baggy jeans are done. Nobody wants to wear big, baggy jeans. Baggy jeans are...

I think that we could be more careful about what we're saying to young women

in terms of their expectations. It's unrealistic to expect people to always be in designer clothes. Girls growing up deserve more freedom in how they look and how they feel about how they look. Emily Procter I knew I was going to do a country album one day. But I was just trying to figure out for the life of me, what we were going to do to make it different, unique. Lionel Richie Our institute's agenda is relatively simple. We study the relationship between social-economic change and culture. By culture we mean beliefs, values and lifestyles. We cover a broad range of issues, and we work very internationally. Peter L. Berger So my answer is, YES, everyone can find a hedgehog concept. If these companies can do it, anyone can do it. And anybody who says they can't is simply whining. James Collins In the polls, over 80% support the right to die and have done for the last 25 years. Even 80% of practising Catholics and Protestants support it, plus 76% of Church Times...
